MEET THE ARTIST
ISMAIL EGILMEZ

I am an analog artist and member of the folk rock band "The Distant Line".
My work is shaped by urban aesthetics, graphic novels, pop art, music, and counterculture. To me, art reflects the needs, anxieties, desires, and identity of the time in which it is created.
Raised in a family of traditional artists and art educators during the latter half of the twentieth century, I was surrounded by painting, music, photography, and craftsmanship from an early age. That environment formed a lifelong connection to physical creation and the artistic process.
My work spans painting, music, and photography, with an emphasis on tactile and mechanical methods. I build and stretch my own canvases, write and produce my own music, and develop my own film by hand. Remaining connected to the physical process is central to my work and philosophy as an artist.
Through Studio 9, I am committed to the continuation of analog arts and culture in the Midwest.
